What was the happiest moment of your life?
In 1990 I met the love of my life and it didn’t take long to get her to marry me. We married in 1992 and I grew from having two children to five. Our marriage with our family and friends was the happiest moment of my life 34 years later I continue to be happy especially when I am with Judy and my family of 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren with a third on the way.
Oh, and I can’t forget when The Ohio State University football team wins a national championship!!
Who has been most influential in your life?
Being part of a church, Prince of Peace Lutheran, has greatly influenced my spiritual life. When I was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2018, it was my neurologist at UC Gardner Institute; the Alzheimer’s Association; and the Giving Voice Foundation that helped me find the path forward on this journey. I have told many other’s with dementia that I have never been happier to be on this journey with them. They have absolutely influenced my life after the diagnosis.
What advice or quote did you always try to live by?
My favorite bible passage is the golden rule from Matthew 12. “ Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” I feel that I have a purpose even after my diagnosis to help others. I love to make people happy.
What is one memory from your past you cherish?
When I think of one memory from my past that I cherish, I think of Christmas morning when I was just a child. I woke up and ran to the Christmas tree to find a train circling the tree. I felt such joy and love in that moment.
Any regrets or advice you’d give to a younger you?
Try to keep a positive attitude about everything – And know that God is with me. I think the hardest thing for me was giving up my driving privileges but Judy was so gracious as to be my uber driver and it is free!
Anything else you wish to share?
Judy and I are so grateful to be able to socialize at so many programs that are offered. I truly believe that these programs have helped slow down my progression.
