Sadie B. Gandy

What was the happiest moment of your life?

If you were to ask Sadie Gandy about the happiest moment(s) of her life it would be when all six of her boys were born. Sadie loved being a mom. She was strong, compassionate and giving. The second happiest time of her life was when she became a grandmother especially to all of her granddaughters. Even after we were all grown and out of the house Sadie and Julius volunteered to teach kids how to read at Shiel school as education was of utmost importance growing up in the Gandy household. The question was not “if” you were going to college but “which” college you were to going to attend. Sadie loved to cook, laugh and dance. Sadie was always fashionably attired and impeccably groomed. My mom was the consummate social butterfly, knew everybody and knew how to get things done. Sadie’s six degrees were two at best. If Sadie entered a room and there were people there she had not met, they would be new friends by the time she left. Having said all that my mother loved her family, her friends and her community and gave of herself without expecting anything in return.
